If you haven't had any experience of boating before - don't panic! From our vast experience with our customers who are new to boating we have compiled this list of common questions and answers that should help you get going in your new sport.

Question: Which
boat should I choose?
Answer: There are many options to choose from depending on what you want to use it for:
fishing, water sports, weekend cruising, family boating or power boating.
You may just want a general
boat that will accommodate all of the above. Please contact one of our sales team to discuss your needs.

Question: New or Used?
Answer: We have an excellent selection of new and used
boats to suit your needs. All our used boats are fully checked by qualified mechanics. To view our full range of boats for sale please use the “stocklist“ link.

Question: Are finance packages available?
Answer: Yes, we can put together a package for you, or alternatively you can contact www.bankofscotland.co.uk/marine for an online quote.

Question: Should I insure my boat?
Answer: Yes, we recommend using “Mardon Insurance“. Visit www.mardon.co.uk for a competitive quote. Call and quote our name.

Question: Do I need to take a driving test?
Answer: No, But we recommend that you take the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Powerboat level 1 & 2. The course covers all aspects of safety and practical knowledge that you will need to be confident and safe on the water. You will also need this to gain your International Certificate of Competence if you wish to use your
boat in all E.C waters. It also lowers your insurance!!

Visit  www.rya.org to find a training centre near you.

Question: Where can I keep my new boat?
Answer: It depends on what type of
boat you go for. Many of the smaller boats can be launched on a trailer from a slipway. Always remember to contact the marina or slipway owner for permission first. If you have a larger boat you might like to keep it berthed in a marina, alternatively you can have a mooring on the river.

Question: How often should I service my engine?
Answer: New
engines must be serviced regularly if they are not it may invalidate your manufacturer’s warranty. Ideally you will have a service completed after 10hrs, 50hrs and then annually after that. We can arrange a service all makes and models.

Question: Should I have my
engine winterised?
Answer: Yes, Serious damage can occur to the
engine if water is left in it during the winter months or for long periods of time.
